In tax news, Russia’s number one wireless provider MTS has agreed to pay Rub 21 mln ($750,000) of the Federal Tax Service’s claims totaling Rub 372.15 mln ($13.29 mln), the cellular giant’s IR director Andrei Braginsky told RBC. According to him, the balance, viewed by tax authorities as the company’s unrecorded taxable base, will be appealed in court. He stressed that the claims were filed after a routine field tax audit and the company has been trying to cooperate with tax authorities in all possible ways. Today, MTS’ report mentioned the tax claims of Rub 372.15 mln ($13.29 mln) served against the operator for 2002. The document also said that in March 2005 tax authorities conducted an audit to ascertain whether or not MTS was compliant with tax legislation in 2002.
