June 23. Interros owner Vladimir Potanin is prepared to buy up 25% of Norilsk Nickel that Oleg Deripaska’s Rusal holds in a bid to lift his equity position to a controlling stake, Russian newspapers wrote. Potanin has not yet discussed this idea with Rusal, but held unofficial consultations with governmental officials in late May, Vedomosti business daily quoted sources close to both companies. Potanin confirmed in an interview with the newspaper that it would be attractive for him to acquire Norilsk Nickel securities and he would explore such a possibility.
