June 24. The best rollout option for Svyazinvest’s mobile business would to merge its assets with a Big3 operator, Russian Telecom Minister Igor Shchegolev said. Last month, Russian authorities seeking to bolster control over the telecom sector and, in particular, the high valued-added cellular business, announced the reorganization of Svyazinvest. The telecom holding’s CEO Evgeny Yurchenko earlier said that the company could consolidate the mobile assets of its subsidiaries in order to spin them off into a standalone entity as part of the reorganization which will become the first step towards boosting its role in the sector. “The best option is to merge with a Big3 operator, although this is not something that can be done tomorrow”, Shchegolvev said at a conference Tuesday.
