June 26. Gazprom contracted NNPC Wednesday to set up a JV with investments of at least USD 2.5 bn. The JV, called Nigas, will engage in construction of pipelines, refineries and gas-fired power plants in Nigeria. The joint venture will be established on a parity basis. Nigeria owns the seventh largest proven gas reserves worldwide, but lacks the investments to tap them. “We will participate in building the first section of the pipeline from south-west of Nigeria northward. If the Transsaharian project gets off the ground, this facility will be its first section”, head of Gazprom International Boris Ivanov said.
