June 29. Gazprom Neft, which began buying up Sibir Energy shares in spring, has gained control over the company, adding to a 34% stake consolidated on the market another 23.5% after having taken over Igor Kesaev’s Orton Oil. Gazprom Neft reported Friday evening that its affiliates acquired 100% of Orton Oil Company, which owns a 50% stake in Bennfield, with a 47% stake in Sibir. Kesaev’s partner in Bennfield is Shalva Chigirinsky who owes Sibir Energy around USD325 mn. The oil company is conducting an investigation during which trading in its stocks on the stock market has been halted.
